The Books

I had so much fun with Laughing for a Living, which was published last December, that I decided to self-publish Great News Town as well. I wrote it 10 years ago, inspired by a series of murders that occurred in 1983 when I was assistant city editor at the Joliet Herald-News. I worked through an agent in New York for seven years but never found a publisher, so I decided to just publish it myself. I've been participating in book fairs at libraries in Florida, Michigan and Illinois. Both books are on the shelves of several libraries and book stores and I've been scheduled to speak to book clubs a year ahead. But I can't say I've sold enough books to break even, and I probably never will. But at least it's not stuck in my computer. I'm working on the sequel, One Shoe Off, with a plan to publish in July. This one will feature the same small town newspaper staff trying to solve a murder. This time they get a little help from the ghost of a former newspaper woman. It's inspired by the Joliet legend of Molly Zelko, a newspaper editor who disappeared in 1957 evidently a victim of gangsters. Laughing for a Living is available for Kindle, ebook and I-store. Great News Town just came out on Kindle and it's part of their new FREE lending library, so check it out. With the free Kindle apps, you can read Great News Town on just about any mobile device -- for free!
